Residential Interior Design Portfolio in Toronto, ON
King West Loft
When purchased, this 900 sq ft one bedroom, two bathroom unit combining both classic and industrial finishes was predominantly olive green and in need of an update. With the help of several more neutral wall colours, along with almost all new furnishings and a pop of "Holt Renfrew" pink, this soft loft was transformed into a slightly feminine yet urban and still quite industrial space. The master bedroom is a glamorous take on rustic, traditional Canadian decor by combining an iridescent damask accent wall, silk curtains and a unique vintage chandelier with Canadian artwork, a classic Hudson's Bay blanket and an exotic cowhide rug. The end result is a warm and inviting retreat from the more modern open concept main living area perfect for entertaining.
Favourite pieces include the ornate white lacquer mirror in the dinning room, stylish yet practical pull out sectional, the exotic cowhide rug, colourful artwork and contrasting crystal chandeliers.
Queen West Condo I
When purchased in 2011 this brand new condo had light birch parquet floors and bare white walls - the exact opposite of what our Client envisioned. Purchased predominantly for its amazing view of the Toronto skyline, we worked closely to transfer this blank canvas into the desired space without taking away from the incredible view. Replacing floors, lighting fixtures, painting the walls, adding pot lights, artwork, accessories and new furnishings throughout, the end product is a rustic, urban retreat. Predominantly grey, brown and quite neutral, especially the big purchase items, we used a lot of texture and a "Veuve Clicquot" orange accent to add visual interest.
Favourite pieces include the grey sectional made in Canada, exotic cowhide rug, rustic yet industrial walnut dinning table from northern Ontario (that took some convincing but truly makes the space) as well as the colourful art work purchased from a talented local artist.
St. Lawrence Loft
This light, airy two floor loft space was purchased in 2012 as both a home and a potential investment. Our Client was therefore interested in furnishings that could remain should he decide to rent the space. Not looking to keep any of the existing items he owned, we developed a virtual plan and began executing by looking for key pieces. The end result is a vintage modern gallery like space with vintage inspired furnishings and strategic pops of colour throughout. In addition to furnishings, a few structural changes helped ensure a better flow and use of the space.
Favourite pieces include the bright orange vintage inspired chair balanced by the hint of orange in the large Monet canvas (a reflection of his french European heritage) as well as the vintage modern console table accentuated by the over sized monochromatic clock above.
Commercial Real Estate Office
My clients needed to convert an open concept industrial loft in Liberty Village into a fully functional sales office. Despite a relatively small foot print of 900 sq feet, we were up for the challenge and helped turned the open space into a reception area, boardroom, two sales rooms, a kitchen, bathroom and administrative office. The end product is both industrial, to honour the original structure, and vintage modern to appeal to future investors and condo inhabitants.
Favourite pieces include the custom walnut reception desk, artwork that helped tie the space together and the beautiful rustic crystal chandelier over the Saarinen boardroom table and chairs. To add a more traditional feel, we sourced custom frames in a warm gold finish to contrast with the otherwise cool interior and add extra emphasis to floor plans and other marketing collateral.
Queen West Condo II
After seeing a similar unit High Street designed, this client needed help decorating and staging their unit for resale. With only a few days to plan and a weekend to execute, we pulled the space together using accesories and artwork my client then reused in their new home. After only a few days on the market the unit sold for above asking making the quick but effective project completely worthwhile.
Favourite pieces include artwork by a local artist as well as pillows, lighting and accessories from West Elm.
Sears Whole Home Challenge
High Street Design was one of 5 firms chosen Canada wide to participated in the Sears Whole Home "Love Your Space" Competition. Here are a few images from the completed living room. Our clients were young, creative, urban professionals looking to modernize their space. We began by painting the room white which significantly brightened the space and provided a blank canvas for the various textures, materials and colours throughout. Although we didn't win the challenge, it was a wonderful experience that included being featured online, in Cottage Life magazine and on Cottage Life TV.
Favourite pieces include the walnut console complete with linen covered drawers and wine storage as well as the Sears Whole Home custom sofa. Artwork, lighting and accessories were sourced elsewhere to complement these larger pieces from Sears and tie the room together.
Theater District Condo
This recently built 1,200 sq ft condo had spectacular views but was otherwise in need of character and residential interior design. My client, a single man and first time homeowner had excellent taste but wasn't sure where to begin or how to pull things together. We quickly identified a mutual love of mid century modern pieces and created a modern yet industrial inspired space that compliments and enhances his homes stunning panaromic views of downtown.
Favourite pieces include the colourful and bold silk area rug that helps ground the otherwise monochromatic space, custom stools that are as comfortable as they are visually appealing with luggage leather seats, several walnut pieces that add warmth and a concrete coffee table for a mix of modern. The final look is clean, fresh and eclectic resulting in the masculin, unique feel my client wanted.
Danforth Home
This semi-detached home underwent years of renovations but was still in desperate need of an update. My clients, a professional couple originally from San Francisco with a one year old, were interested in redesigning and redecorating the entire first floor. Equally not afraid of colour, we were a good fit from the start and worked well together creating a family friendly home also suitable for entertaining, something the couple does often.
The scope included paint colour selection for the entire house, floor plans, custom furniture design, furniture & accessory sourcing, new blinds, a gallery wall and styling throughout. Favourite pieces include the silk area rug that defines the large living room, custom art, furniture and lighting (all by Toronto designers) as well as colourful pieces from CB2. The use of so many bold, bright colours in this large home was a fun challenge to envision and create.
Photographer's Work/Live Loft
This space needed to play double duty. Provide an inviting area to work and consult with clients during the day while also serving as a functional kitchen, bathroom, living and sleeping space for my client that downsized from a townhouse.
It was a tall order, but we worked closely to ensure the space functioned well in both capacities. The result is a travel inspired, eclectic, yet modern space that reflects my client's personality and style. It was a multi phased project given all the kitchen & bath renovations required.
Favourite pieces include the subtle irredescent backsplash, the moroccan lighting, the sliding glass shower enclosure, the imported media unit made from fishing boats, the hanging bike and my clients travel photography that adds colour and personallity to the space.

My clients were new to the city having both just completed med school. This rental condo served as a blank canvas and an excellent opportunity to make their first joint space a home after years of dating long distance.
We combined their mutual love of Scandinavian simplicity with bright, colourful decor to create a unique, eclectic space they could relax & entertain in when not working overtime at their respective hospitals nearby.
Colourful accessories and their own travel photography were a must to bring personality and style to a space where paint colours, lighting etc. all had to remain unchanged.
Favourite pieces include the bright watermelon coloured console table with rose gold lighting in the front hall, the must have bookcase from CB2 for required medical textbooks, the colourful area rug in the living room and the functional high top table that serves as both a breakfast nook and an island for additional counter space in the kitchen.
King West Corporate Offices
Two very different high tech businesses in one very old converted warehouse required completely different designs to reflect their unique corporate cultures and brands.
At TILT we had an open concept 2800 sq. ft. to work with so we built a kitchen, boardroom and lounge/common area in addition to the usual reception and work zones. Lighting was key to making the different zones functional as well as fun. Plants were a necessary addition to bring life into the space. A must feature dictated by the company's US head office in San Fran. The result is a Toronto head office that reflects the companies but is uniquely Canadian.
At Monarch we wanted to enhance their eclectic, vintage travel inspired office and brand with a custom walnut feature wall and industrial cage lighting. Vintage suitcases served as the perfect platform for miscellaneous travel memorabilia from the many corporate trips the company has planned over the years for their clients.
St Lawrence Children's Bedroom
High Street was hired to convert a small loft space into a multi purpose 1 year old's bedroom & guest room with maximum storage potential. This multi-function space required full custom cabinetry which led to a new TV unit designed for the living room downstairs.
The parents wanted a bedroom that their son could grow into so we kept the look fairly minimal and monochromatic. Colourful accents used sparingly add a childish whimsy but the bulk of the items in the room are neutral in nature to ensure longevity.
Favourite pieces include the Eames elephant, a custom walnut lined cubby complete with it's own pot light, LED strip lighting around the bed that changes colour and plays music (an excellent find by the homeowners), adorbale baby animal photos along the staircase, elephant themed Restoration Hardware Baby bedding that covers the new Casper mattress and a FatBoy bean bag chair perfect for story time.
Spire Condo
My client had been living in this large, 34th floor condo downtown for over a year without making many changes. Onboard for something drastic & uniquely his own, what started as a kitchen reno & living room room decor project quickly developed into a complete overhaul.
The colour inspiration came from a large painting my client had purchased at a corporate event years before. We updated lighting, trim, window treatments, both bathrooms, increased storage & seating in the kitchen, repainted throughout (including several bold jewel toned feature walls), redecorated the living room, updated the master bedroom and finished the den. We also designed & built a custom exotic wood bar with additional floor to ceiling storage.
Favourite pieces include the kitchen island - complete with Quartex waterfall countertops for additional counter seating, the custom bar with fabric inlay side panels inspired by my clients favourite Ted Baker suits, the bamboo silk area rug, the Farrow & Ball stripped wallpaper hung horizontally in the den and the complimentary custom polk-a-dot curtains made with a masculine, streamlined inverted pleat.
Downtown Penthouse
My clients were looking to downsize from their Mississauga home and needed advice on what to bring with them to their brand new penthouse in the heart of Toronto. Our inspiration came from their extensive art collection and a few family heirlooms.
The colour inspiration came from the clients art collection. All items were sourced brand new with the exception of the clients his and her chairs we had recovered for the foyer. Cabinetry, closet doors and trim work was upgraded throughout as was all lighting. High Street also designed the large outdoor terrace, creating an oasis worthy of the condos stunning panoramic city views.
Favourite pieces include the custom trim in the foyer, the custom cabinet in the powder room, the large gallery wall complete with LED lighting in the living room, the many MGBW furniture pieces throughout, a stunning designer console by Kara Mann, the colourful silk rugs, all light fixtures including the vintage Murano glass chandelier in the master bedroom and the eclectic, colourful wallpaper in the small powder room.
This was a true passion project for wonderful clients willing to take risks and trust HSD's expertise.
